Growth Through Writing: My Reflection on Professional Communication and the Power of AI

This month I’ve gained a clearer understanding of how to adjust my writing tone and content based on my audience and purpose. Whether writing a formal email, a social media message, or a cover letter, I now know how to shape my message to be professional, concise, and get my point across. These skills will help me in future classes when corresponding with instructors, writing research assignments, and communicating with peers for projects. I will also be more mindful of deadlines and formatting, which are important skills when doing academic writing.

In the entertainment industry, these writing skills will be criticall. I’ll need to draft professional emails, write project proposals, submit applications, and communicate clearly with technical teams and clients. Because live event production involves many moving parts, clear and respectful communication is key to avoiding misunderstandings. What I’ve practiced here will help me make a strong impression and build long-lasting professional relationships.

Before taking this course, I didn’t think much about how my writing (especially in casual spaces like social media) might reflect on me professionally. Now, I realize that every written message is a representation of who I am and what I believe. I know how tone can affect perception and how important it is to maintain professionalism in all communications even if they are brief or informal. Writing is a powerful tool and the way we present ourselves can make or break us.

The entertainment industry is very focused on the customers and consumers. I’ve come to understand that good writing can open doors. Whether I’m introducing myself to a potential employer or sharing updates online, I want to be intentional about the message I’m sending. From now on, I’ll pay more attention to spelling, grammar, and tone even in short messages or posts because they all contribute to my personal brand.

Artificial Intelligence has proven to be both a valuable and complex tool. I used to be hesitant about AI, especially in creative fields, but now I see how it can be used responsibly to support creativity and help with getting work done and thoughts organized. From helping organize ideas in writing to editing audio, creating visuals, or even enhancing lighting design, AI offers tools that can speed up production without replacing creativity. It allows us to focus on higher-level thinking and creative decisions.

I do still think we have to be cautious. AI should enhance and not be a replacement for human input. When used without paying attention, it can lead to basic results or even ethical issues like plagiarism or misinformation. I learned that when it comes to making sure that the sources are reliable. In the entertainment industry, I believe AI can support the creative process, but we still need people to lead with originality, emotion, and storytelling. It’s a positive tool when used wisely and transparently.

I do believe I’ll use AI regularly in my career, but more as a support system than a main creative driver. In live event production, AI can assist with things like scheduling, audio balancing, lighting presets, and stage management logistics. These tools can help me work more efficiently and ensure consistency in large-scale events. However, I will always want a human touch in my final work, especially when it comes to live performance elements that require emotional awareness and instinct.

I also see myself using AI to help brainstorm or polish written communication, but I’ll always make sure my voice and intentions come through clearly. By reviewing and editing what AI helps generate, I can make sure that there is accuracy and originality while saving time. Overall, AI will be a tool in my toolkit not the one running the show.
